Author’s note 1: This is a sequel to A Sunnydale Auction.
Author’s note 2: Thoughts are in single quotes.
Author’s note 3: Written in response to the following challenge.
I want Buffy and Giles to go out. And not dancing, either. Something... cultural. Something... fun. Take them to Disney, take them to Seaworld, take them to a museum. Whatever tickles your fancy.
Make it funny, make it sappy, make it romantic.
Extra points for the following:
- Buffy lecturing Giles about something.
- Giles in a strange position - and having a good explanation for it.
- "I'd rather be slimed by a chaos-demon" - and having a good time anyway.
- Someone, somewhere, remarking "It's a good thing he's not a vampire."
That's it, folks! Any timing, any rating, just have fun!

Giles’ mind reeled. He couldn’t believe what he’d heard. He felt a push on his back and started walking. As he rounded the corner, he saw Buffy. She was wearing a long, white, satin dress. It made her look like an angel. He thought he should see wings behind her.
As he approached her, he realized what he needed to do. He didn’t say a word, but smiled in a very Ripperish way. When he reached her, he grabbed her with one arm around her waist, the other behind her neck and kissed her.
She didn’t react, and he feared he’d done the wrong thing. When he dropped his hands and started to pull away, she finally moved and grabbed his face in her hands. He still wasn’t sure of himself until he felt her tongue trace the outline of his lips. Then, he knew he’d done the right thing and parted his lips for her. As the kiss continued, he felt her hands leave his face and trail down his neck to his chest. He moaned as one of her hands lightly grazed a nipple.
He gently pushed her away before things went too far.
Buffy looked up into his eyes. “Wow. I never knew. . . Wow.”
“You approve?”
She nodded. “What are you doing here?” she asked.
“I could ask you the same question,” Giles replied. “We can discuss that later. Let’s just enjoy our day together.”
“Deal. So what should we do? Where should we go?”
“I thought I’d leave that up to you.”
She thought for a moment. “There’s a carnival in town this weekend. Tara and Willow took Dawn yesterday. They said it’s a lot of fun. Wanna go?”
“I’d like that.”
“Okay. Then we need to stop by the house first. I need to change clothes.” At his questioning look, she said, “I want to wear something more comfortable if we’re going to the carnival. Besides, I don’t want to keep all this cash with me all night. I need to put it somewhere safe.”
“Where did you get that much money?”
“Olivia. She wants you to be happy. She gave me money to bid on you and told me to keep the rest. It really surprised me.”
“Buffy, she really is a good person.”
“Yea, I think I know that now. She said that you love me and that she wants us to be happy.” Before he could respond, she added, “I love you, too. I just couldn’t see it until now.”
He studied her eyes and saw that she was sincere. “If this is all a dream, I pray that I never wake up.” He leaned down and kissed her once again.

Buffy opened the front door to her house and was met with five expectant faces. Everyone was there and waiting for them, Xander, Anya, Willow, Tara, and Dawn.
“See. I told you they’d have to come here before they went anywhere,” Anya said. “One of them is going to have to change clothes.”
While Buffy shut the door, Dawn squealed and ran into Giles’ arms for a hug. “We’ve missed you so much. I’m glad you’re home.”
He hugged her tightly and whispered in her ear, “I hear you’re responsible for bringing me home. Thank you.”
Buffy touched his arm as he released Dawn. “I’m going to go upstairs and change.”
“Don’t take too long, Luv,” Giles said and gave her a quick kiss.
As she climbed the stairs she heard Dawn ask, “Does this mean you’ll be staying?” She didn’t hear his answer as she shut her bedroom door.
‘I can’t believe this,’ Buffy thought. ‘It has to be a dream. But what if it’s real?’ She opened her closet and started to look for something to wear.
She’d know Giles for five years. They knew so much about each other. Yet, here she was standing in front of her closet, trying to decide what to wear. She knew that it shouldn’t matter, but she felt like she was back in high school, trying to impress a date.
‘A date. I’m going on a date with Giles.’ It was hard to believe. She’d never dreamed that she would ever go on a date with Giles.
Buffy hadn’t realized how long she’d been standing there until Dawn opened the door. “Buffy, are you okay? You’ve been up here a long time.”
Buffy turned and looked at Dawn. “Oh, sorry.”
“Come on. It can’t be that hard to pick something to wear to the carnival.” Dawn reached into the closet and pulled out a tank top and a black leather skirt. “Here, I’m sure he’ll like this.”
